The symptom: your own words show up in the transcript, but the other person's don't. During the meeting you see:
⚠ Not hearing the other side — check audio / screen-recording permission
This is the most common issue with Amlin, and it's nearly always the same cause.
Fix 1 — Grant Screen & System Audio Recording (start here)
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording
Find Amlin and turn it on. If it's not listed, add it with the + button.
Quit Amlin completely (⌘Q) and relaunch. macOS only applies this grant on a fresh launch — this step is not optional, and skipping it is why the fix "doesn't work" for most people.
Start a test capture and play a YouTube video. You should see Them lines appear.
Fix 2 — Re-approve after a macOS or Amlin update
macOS periodically re-confirms screen-recording grants, and some system updates silently revoke them. If it worked yesterday and doesn't today:
Toggle Amlin off and back on under Screen & System Audio Recording
Quit and relaunch Amlin
Fix 3 — Check your audio output
Amlin captures whatever your Mac is playing. If the call's audio is being routed somewhere Amlin isn't listening — an external audio interface, a virtual audio device, some conferencing apps' custom output routing — the system channel can genuinely be silent.
Set your call app's speaker output to your normal system output device
Check the volume isn't muted (Amlin captures the stream, but a fully muted route may produce nothing)
Fix 4 — Test with something simple
Play a YouTube video with a note capturing. If Them lines appear for YouTube but not for your call app, the issue is that app's audio routing, not Amlin's permission.
Note for macOS 15 (Sequoia) users
Sequoia has a separate "System Audio Recording Only" permission that macOS often won't prompt for. Amlin deliberately uses the capture path that rides on the ordinary Screen Recording permission to avoid it — so the fix above is the right one, and you shouldn't need to hunt for a second toggle.
