How updates normally work
Amlin checks for updates shortly after launch and about once an hour, downloads in the background, and installs when you quit. Settings → General → Software updates shows the current version and status.
Force a check
Settings → General → Software updates → Check now, or Amlin → Check for Updates… in the menu bar. If a version is ready, the button becomes Restart & install.
An update downloaded but never installed
Updates apply when you quit Amlin — closing the window isn't enough since Amlin lives in the menu bar. Quit properly (⌘Q or Quit Amlin in the menu bar) and relaunch.
"Couldn't check for updates"
Usually transient network trouble, a VPN, or a corporate proxy. Try again later; if it persists on a managed network, your IT may be blocking the update endpoint.
Auto-install is off
Settings → General → Automatically install updates. With it off, you download and install manually.
macOS says the app is damaged or from an unidentified developer
Amlin is signed and notarized, so this normally means an incomplete or corrupted download. Delete it and re-download from the official link rather than working around the warning.
After an update, permissions stopped working
macOS occasionally re-confirms grants after an app changes. Re-check Screen & System Audio Recording and the dictation permissions, and quit/relaunch. See Grant the permissions Amlin needs.
