What Amlin does automatically
If your audio device changes mid-capture — AirPods connect, a USB mic is unplugged, you plug into a dock — the bottom bar shows:

Amlin re-establishes capture on the new device and keeps the session going, without losing what was already transcribed.
Best practice
Connect your headphones before starting capture. Switching devices mid-meeting always risks losing a few seconds while capture re-establishes, on any app. Getting settled first avoids it entirely.
If capture doesn't recover
If the indicator stays on "recovering" or the meeting goes silent:
■ Stop — everything captured so far is preserved and will enhance
● Start transcribing again to begin a fresh capture on the new device
AirPods and dictation
AirPods make a poor dictation microphone: as an input device they switch to a low-quality call profile that hurts recognition, and Bluetooth adds a second or two of activation lag. Your Mac's built-in mic array is usually better for dictation, even when AirPods are your output.
Speakers and channel bleed
With open speakers, your mic also picks up the other side of the call, so some of "Them" bleeds into the "Me" channel. Amlin leaves echo cancellation off deliberately, so nothing is stripped from your own audio. Headphones eliminate the bleed.
